Has Neowin jumped the shark?

It certainly seems so. Consider this gem on the Neowin front page: 'Weekend Poll: Do you hate Apple?'

Flame bait in its purest form. It should never have been posted under this title and with a lack of differentiated poll options as it is.

The front page poll sparked a lively discussion thread and was reason enough for one member to announce his leave from the site. How did Tim Schiesser (alias Scorpus) react to the thread? Well:

How very mature.

Neowin has been going downhill for a while. Take a good look at its community - or rather what is left of it. As of lately it's degraded into various factions slinging mud at each other. Whether it's pro-Windows 8 versus anti-Windows 8, Android vs iOS, whatever the topic - the old concept of respecting each other's opinion seems to have disappeared. Yes, this is not limited to Neowin, it is more of an internet-wide phenomenon. It still saddens me to see a forum I used to consider my home on the internet turn into a troll haven.

Then there's the sheer amount of non-tech threads. When the majority of activity on any given day stems from political discussions or random picture threads on what is considered a technology-oriented forum something is going horribly wrong.

Lastly: Some members of staff aren't exactly helping to improve the site's reputation and get it back to its former glory. Whether it's flame bait in front page articles or questionable moderation actions - they're not doing a good job giving members a reason to stay and contribute.

I'm not going to leave the site yet. But I don't have high hopes for its future either.

Edit: Now look at that. All of a sudden the front page article is gone. How did that happen?
