Mac applications I use
Wait, I hear some of you say. Mac applications? Didn't you post about your new Dell and how an Apple laptop wasn't worth the price back in December 2012?
Yes, I did. And yet I ended up switching back to the Mac when the 2013 Macbook Air was announced in June. It's more than powerful enough for what I'm doing with it, considering I'm not a huge gamer. It's well designed, light and the battery life is just astonishing. But I digress.
Back on topic: What applications is yours truly using on OS X?
Productivity
Microsoft Office 2011 for the Mac and Apple iWork. The former mainly when compatibility to MS Office for Windows documents is important, the latter for most everything else.
TextWrangler as better text editor than TextEdit.
Preview.app makes for an excellent PDF reader. I haven't felt the need to install Adobe Reader yet.
Terminal.app for a multitude of tasks, file operations of all kind being a huge part of them.
Microsoft Remote Desktop, Teamviewer for remote access, Preview.app as image viewer.
Internet
Web browser: Safari 7.0 and Google Chrome (dev build). Firefox is installed, but hardly ever used.
Email client: Airmail. Lightweight, fast, and feeling like what Sparrow would be if it were still being developed. What sold me on Airmail is the excellent Gmail integration - something the built-in Mail.app is severely lacking.
Instant messaging: Skype.
IRC: Textual. I used to use Linkinus as OS X IRC client, but with the development of the latter seemingly having halted over a year ago I switched to Textual.
Social media: Twitter.app
Cloud storage: Google Drive
Misc other applications in this category: Cyberduck as SCP/SFTP client, Google Earth, the Hostr Mac app for quick image uploads.
Multimedia
Audio player: Apple iTunes 11.1 for local media, Spotify for streaming music.
Video player: VLC.
Games
Origin and Steam are both installed. The former for SimCity, the latter for a couple of casual games and Civilization V. And of course Minecraft is installed. <shameless plug>Don't forget to check out the Neowin Minecraft server at mc.neowin.net.</shameless plug>
So there you have it - a list of Mac applications I use. It doesn't differ all that much from the list of Windows applications I use, does it? For good reason too - most of the applications are available and work equally well for me on both systems. As always, your mileage may vary.
