MMXII

With under twelve hours to go until the year 2013 starts in the Central European Time Zone it is time to look back at the year 2012.

For me 2012 was one of the most interesting years I've had. All in all there were more ups than downs in it - and I expect 2013 to become even better.

I hadn't bothered to come up with New Year's resolutions for 2012. Instead I started the year with a positive approach. It couldn't get much worse after all. Alas, on the tech front it did take a turn for the worse - my trusty four-year-old iMac died in March. May it rest in peace.

One of the high points of the year was finding a new job as IT technician for SchuF Fetterolf, a manufacturer of all kinds of valves for the chemical industry. I started working for them in September. It's an interesting, challenging job I'm rather enjoying. It is also my way out of the dead end street I had been stuck in for several years.

Related to the new job: Finding a new apartment closer to the office has proven to be more difficult than I had anticipated. There aren't a whole lot of apartments in my price range available in the Frankfurt area. I'm currently living at my uncle's house; this is only a temporary solution though. My aim is to tackle the housing issue as soon as in January 2013.

2012 will be remembered for many events. The presidential elections in the US for example, the Olympic games in London, the Euro Crisis, the civil war in Syria, the shooting at Newtown, CT and the controversy started by it, the UEFA Football Championship, one of the most exciting Formula 1 seasons in ages, the release of the controversial Windows 8, - the list goes on and on.

The most memorable event of 2012 for me though? Meeting the charismatic Amanda of Glittericity fame in person. In the forty years I've spent on this planet only a selected few people have left a positive impression on me like she did. If you're reading this, Amanda: Yes, you are making a positive difference in my life. Thank you.

What will 2013 bring? Who knows. I for one am mildly optimistic and looking forward to an even better year than 2012 was.

Happy New Year 2013, everyone.
